FRANCE & CORSICA - The best of both worlds!
If you are used to holidays in the south of France and want to try something a little different, why not take a two centre holiday in France and Corsica.
With so many travel options, there really is a something to suit every visitor. Low cost airlines operate to many regional airports and you can either hire a car and take it across to Corsica on the ferry, or catch a connecting flight over to the island for your second week. For those who prefer a more leisurely journey, you can drive through France and stop off en-route where the fancy takes you; perhaps visiting one of the excellent vineyards of the champagne or Burgundy regions, or maybe even spending one or two nights in one of the many beatiful towns and villages.
AND TEDDY GOES TOO...
If you are travelling with children, you will appreciate the freedom to be able to stop whenever you want to, and pack up all those extra little bits and pieces that just won't fit into the strict airline baggage allowances, so teddy can go too! Most properties in Corsica are less than an hour from a port so an overnight crossing can be part of the adventure for children, allowing Mum and Dad to arrive refreshed and relaxed for the start of your Corsican holiday. WINE BUFFS...
It's impossible to go to France and not sample some of the excellent local wines. Why not try a week in stunning Dancevoir which consists almost exclusively of lovely old stone houses and barns, some dating back to the 15th century. There are excellent guided tours of the nearby cellars and a short way to the north is the 'Petit Champagne' - a champagne producing area centred round Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises, famous retirement home of General de Gaulle. A Corsican speciality, not to be missed is the local muscat. This sweet, fruity dessert wine is produced in the Cap Corse, notably the Patrimonio region. The Vendange (grape picking and harvest) here starts at the end of August and continues throughout September. Here one can watch as the grapes arrive at the cave ready to be turned into wine. In this region, the grapes are still picked by hand and during the vendange, Patrimonio - as one of the premier wine regions on the island - takes on a new and unique atmosphere, making this possibly the best time of year to visit.

DRIVING AND FERRY CROSSINGS
There are three companies who offer ferries from mainland France (and Italy) to
Corsica; Corsica Ferries, SNCM and La Meridionale (CMN).
CORSICA
FERRIES offer high speed crossings from Nice to Calvi, Bastia and Ajaccio, as well
as sailings from Toulon to Ile Rousse, Ajaccio and Bastia, Savona to Calvi and Bastia and Livorno to Bastia. The
Corsica ferries ships are modern and comfortable, and it is rapidly replacing the state owned SNCM as the company
of choice for those wishing to cross between France and Corsica.

| SNCM and CMN offer crossings from Marseille and Nice to Calvi, Ile Rousse, Bastia, Propriano, Porto Vecchio and Ajaccio. The new 'cruise' ferries are huge and very comfortable, but some of the older/freight boats can be a little basic. | |
| CHANNEL CROSSINGS | |
| Of course, you will also need to book your crossing from the UK to mainland France. | |
|
|
SeaFrance is the only French owned cross-Channel ferry operator on the Dover to Calais route and currently offers up to 15 daily return crossings across its four strong passenger fleet. Ten of the 15 daily return crossings are operated by SeaFrance's two superferries, the award-winning SeaFrance Rodin and her sister ship, the SeaFrance Berlioz - the two fastest ferries on the Dover-Calais route. |
| If you just want to get across the Channel as quickly as possible then Eurotunnel will get you there in just 35 minutes. Cheap4Ferries offer the full range of crossing from all the operators and are generally cheaper than booking direct. Simply click the link below for a quote from your nearest port. | |
| EN-ROUTE HOTELS IN FRANCE | |
| Whichever route you decide to take to Corsica, the chances are that you will need to
