Balagne, Villa Saunier is perfect for those who want to experience all the very best that Corsica has to offer.
An attractive house with a private pool (7.5 x 4m) just a few minutes away from the beautiful old village of Calenzana,
children will love the shallow sandy beach at Calvi where there are all sorts of watersports on offer, whilst adults
will enjoy nothing more than relaxing on the terrace in the evening with a glass of wine from the local vineyard,
whilst the mountains take on a beautiful russet colour at sunset.
Designed for comfortable living, the rooms have been tastefully decorated in cool white with hints of colour here
and there to make the most of the summery feel of the house. The kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine,
dishwasher and fridge-freezer, and there is a television and comfortable seating in the living room should you
ever tire of living al fresco. French windows lead from both the main living room and the kitchen to the shady
terrace and from there to the garden.
There are two bedrooms, each with double bed and a large mezzanine area with a third double bed, making this house
ideal as a base for a family or two couples who want to holiday together. There is also a shower room and a separate
toilet.
There is always something going on in Calenzana, and we highly recommend it to people who want to experience the
real Corsica. Village life centres around the Piazza Communa, the tree lined square which is home to the Baroque
church of St. Blaise and its beautiful bell tower which was once the scene of a pitched battle in the struggle
for independence. These days the village enjoys a much more peaceful way of life, and has a thriving crafts industry
including cheese, honey, biscuits, cakes and sweets as well as wine, liqueurs, and even pottery!
It is worth wandering around the upper streets to gain a true feeling of the village and if you fancy a change
from the heat of the beach, why not follow the road past the school and you will eventually reach an old olive
mill where you can bathe in the refreshing clear pools full of water that rushes straight down from the mountains.
If you're looking for adventure, the Balagne is the ideal natural environment in which to indulge in all sorts
of outdoor activities such as walking and hiking - the famous GR20 and Mare e Monti walking trails start in the
village - canyoning, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and horseriding. For those who enjoy gentler pursuits, why
not spend a day on the beach or follow the 'Stradi di l'Artigiani' (crafts trail) through the pretty hillside villages
where you can stop at the workshops of various artisans and try some of the local produce.
Bed linen is included in the price of the rental, but towels are
not, so please be sure to bring both bath towels and towels for

'We're just back from a two week stay at this property. We had
a very comfortable and pleasant time here. The villa is stylish and excellently equiped, and has beautiful views
of the mountains and villages.
The owners were very friendly and discreet. The villa is located off the beaten track which suited us fine. For
walkers, the town of Calenzana is around 25 minutes walk away via a very scenic track which starts to the back
of the villa. The nearest shops are in Calenzana. (PS: the other review on this site which refers to a shop "across
the road" was misleading.)'
'What did you like about the property... 'Everything! It was
simple, but very clean and prettily laid out. Although it was along a busy road,it was set back and sheltered from
traffic. The shaded veranda meant we could eat all meals outside. Wonderful with a barbecue, and particularly since
a fully-stocked supermarket was across the road. The gardens were well cared for, and the pool and surrounding
areas clean. Very comfortable sunbeds. The owner was very helpful and friendly.'
