The largest of the Balagne villages, Calenzana is the ideal place for those who
want to experience the real Corsica, whilst still within easy reach of the superb sandy beaches and warm shallow
waters of the bustling coastline. Tucked away amongst the narrow cobbled streets, the aptly named 'A Porta di e
Muntagne' (door to the mountains) was originally the village presbytery, which has now been carefully renovated
to provide a delightful 2 bedroom apartment and a separate studio at the heart of this popular village.
The apartments can be rented separately, or together to accommodate up to nine guests, and are particularly suited
to guests who will appreciate the tranquil setting and peaceful ambiance.
| 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT |
 |
Situated on the first floor, this spacious apartment covers an area of 64m2 and each
room was completely renovated in 2010. The apartment comprises two bedrooms, each with double bed. The open plan
living room with beautiful vaulted ceilings has been tastefully decorated in cool shades, and furnished with a
comfortable sofa that also converts to a double bed allowing for more flexible sleeping arrangements, or extra
occupants. The kitchen is fully equipped with a full cooker/oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing
machine which is located in the laundry area below the apartment, and shared with the |
| studio. Outside is a balcony which looks out over the ancient buildings of the village
and the church courtyard. The apartment also has a television for those who don't want to venture into the village
in the evenings, and heating should you wish to visit outside of the main season and a WiFi connection (subject
to weather conditions) if you can't tear yourselves away! |

| STUDIO |
|
|
 |
Situated in the same building as the 2 bedroom apartment, this studio was converted
to offer a bright, modern space whilst still retaining the traditional feel of the property. Covering an area of
25m2, the owners have taken great care to make the very best of the space available, from the table that can be
folded away and the built in wardrobes. The clik-clak style sofa easily transforms into a comfortable double bed
for two, and a folding bed is available for a third person if required. The open plan kitchen is separated by a
breakfast bar, and has been equipped with a microwave, two hot plates, fridge with ice box and a washing |
| machine in the separate laundry area shared with the apartment. There is also a separate
shower room. There is also a WiFi connection (subject to weather conditions) if you can't tear yourselves away!
Outside, is a quaint terrace area arranged in the old Presbytery corridors where you can sit and watch the world
go by, or enjoy your coffee and croissants in the morning before venturing out for a day sightseeing |
Situated at the very edge of the mountains against a backdrop of olive groves and looking out across the valley
towards Calv, the GR20, the 'Pennine Way' of Corsica that crosses the island from north to south starts in the
village, as does the Mare e Monti Nord, making it popular with walkers. Village life centres around the Piazza
Communa, the tree lined square which is home to the Baroque church of St. Blaise and its beautiful bell tower which
was once the scene of a pitched battle in the struggle for independence. These days the village enjoys a much more
peaceful way of life, and has a thriving crafts industry including cheese, honey, biscuits, cakes and sweets as
well as wine, liqueurs, and even pottery!
It is worth wandering around the upper streets to gain a true feeling of the village and if you fancy a change
from the heat of the beach, why not follow the road past the school and you will eventually reach an old olive
mill where you can bathe in the refreshing clear pools full of water that rushes straight down from the mountains.
From Calenzana, one can also experience the diversity of the coastline, from the huge crescent shaped sweep of
golden sand at Calvi to the silver white powdery sand and turquoise waters at Ile Rousse, there is sure to be a
spot to tempt you. The trinicellu (little train) that runs along the coast between these two resorts, also stops
at all the creeks and coves along the way.
