In the peaceful Saint Francois quarter of Calvi is the Hotel Sole Mare, a small friendly hotel with a swimming pool just a few minutes walk from the centre of town and the superb sandy bay which stretches for more than 5km.

The hotel is modern in style and boasts a host of features that one would not necessarily expect from a two star hotel. Recently renovated, each of the 24 rooms are bright and airy, each with a varanda and lovely views over the sea and the stunning mountain backdrop beyond. Standard rooms are located on the ground floor whilst superior rooms are on the upper floors to fully appreciate the views. All the rooms have a double or twin beds, shower and toilet. A hairdryer is also provided for the comfort of guests.

Visitors to Calvi tell us that one of the pleasures is to wander into town in the morning and enjoy your coffee and croissant at one of the cafes along the port, but if you don't want to venture out, the hotel also has a breakfast room where you can plan your activities for the day. Outside is a large swimming pool surrounded by terraces and sunbeds where you can simply relax and enjoy the view. There is also free parking which is a real bonus during the summer months when the town is at it's busiest.

Calvi is a lovely base and one where you can really experience the diversity of the island. From the narrow cobbled street with their array of boutiques, to the imposing 15th centuring Genoese citadel that dominates the town and the port, here you can truly appreciate the mix of French and Italian influences that make this island so unique. After a day at the beach or exploring the area, you can relax and enjoy an aperitif on the port before choosing one of the many and varied restaurants Calvi has to offer.
