Superbly situated just at the edge of one of Corsica's best wine producing
regions, it is hard to believe that here one is just a few minutes away from the bustling waterfront of Saint Florent
with its vibrant array of shops and restaurants, and long sheltered sweep of sand stretching from the port to opposite
side of the bay.
Chez Sandra is a spacious, modern house designed for comfortable living. The rooms have been tastefully decorated
in cool white with hints of colour here and there to make the most of the summery feel of the house which also
benefits from air conditioning on the ground floor. The main living room has a large comfortable sofa, dining table
and chairs, and two sets of French windows that lead onto the terrace at the front of the house. From here you
have superb views over the surrounding vineyards to the sea, and one of the best views of the Couvent de Patrimonio
- perhaps one of the most photographed churches on the island. Should you ever tire of the view, a large television
has also been provided, and there is a second terrace to the side of the house.
A breakfast bar separates the living room from the kitchen which has been equipped to the highest standard with
full oven and gas hob, microwave, large American style fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Named after
the owner, Chez Sandra was originally their own home so you will find lots of home comforts that can sometimes
be lacking from rental properties. Stairs lead up to the first floor where there are two bedrooms, each with double
bed (although the sofa can also be used for more flexible sleeping arrangements), and a good sized, modern bathroom
with corner bath, shower and toilet. The bath itself is a hydro massage tub, so you can soothe away any aches and
pains after a hard day walking or sightseeing!
The Patrimonio region is famous throughout the island for its excellent local wine, and no visit to this area would
be complete without a visit to the Cave Lazzarini which is owned by the same family as the house. Monsieur invites
all guests for a tour of the 'cave' to see how the wine is produced and perhaps indulge in some tasting too, whilst
Madame always provides a welcome pack on arrival. You can also follow the 'Route des Vins' (wine route) which will
take you on a circuit through the vineyards to the various domaines - full details and map can be found at the
tourits office in Saint Florent or you can simply follow the well marked road signs.
The Vendange (grape picking and harvest) starts at the end of August
and continues throughout September. With it's enviable position just at the edge of the Patrimonio, guests at Chez
Sandra can watch as the grapes arrive at the cave ready to be turned into wine. In this region, the grapes are
still picked by hand and during the vendange, Patrimonio - as one of the premier wine regions on the island - takes
on a new and unique atmosphere, making this possibly the best time of year to visit. Another fabulous time to visit
this area is when the village celebrates the Fete de SAN MARTINO (Patron Saint of Wines) on the 11th November each
year. This day is possibility the most important on Patrimonio's calendar when each Vigneron presents their new
wine and everyone is invited! In the village itself, one should certainly visit the Mehir statue which has been
classed as an historic monument of Corsica and is situated just below the church.
Only a few minutes drive away from the village is Saint Florent - often known as the Corsican Saint Tropez. The
town itself centres round the 15th Century Genoese Citadel that today plays host to events such as Porto Latino,
a Latin music extravaganza held each year during August. In summer, the narrow streets are filled with lively bars
and restaurants, and small boutiques selling hand-made jewellery, paintings local produce, but you can still find
a quiet corner to sit and watch the world go by.
Linen and a welcome pack is included in the price of the rental.
