Perched just above the charming village of Lumio, Casa d'Hugo is a spacious,
modern villa with private pool with superb panoramic views of the bay of Cavi and the surrounding planes.
Built into the hillside, the house is arranged on two levels. The main door opens onto the hallway of the ground
floor where the bedrooms are located. The master bedroom has a double bed, sea views and access onto the upper
terrace where there is room to relax and unwind. The second bedroom also has sea views and access to the terrace,
and here there is high sleeper with a single bed on the top level and a double bed below to allow for more flexible
sleeping arrangements and making it suitable either for two children, or a couple. The third bedroom has bunk beds
and sea views from the window. On this level is the family bathroom with bath and shower attachment over as well
as two washbasins and a separate toilet.
Stairs lead down to the garden level where the living rooms are situated. There is a large sitting room with comfortable
seating and a television with some English channels should you ever tire of the views. There is also a dining table
and chairs and the thoughtful owners have provied a variety of books (mostly french) and games to help you while
away the evenings. There is a spacious modern kitchen which has been well equipped with a full oven and four hob
rings, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster and a cafetiere. There is also space to
eat in the kitchen should you wish. There is also a further toilet on this level and a store cupboard.
French doors from the kitchen and the sitting room lead onto the side terrace and the garden with barbecue where
there are plenty of quiet corners to relax and unwind. Steps lead down to the pool (approx. 8m x 4m) where you
can find loungers and easy chairs. The sun rises behind the house making the terraces the perfect place to enjoy
a shady breakfast, and sets behind the citadel which means that you can enjoy full sun all afternoon, and watch
as it sinks below the ancient ochre buildings.
In the village there are two epiceries where you can buy a selection of groceries and a friendly café/snack
bar. The house overlooks the renowned 'Chez Charles' restaurant at the entrance to the village where M. Lanzalavi
entertains the guests most evenings with his mandolin. The village is situated just 10 minutes or so from the lively
resort of Calvi if you fancy a change of pace, and it is also featured on the Stada di l'Artigiani (crafts trail)
which winds its way through the network of little villages hugging the Balagne hills, and offers the change to
see local artisans at work.
The beaches are simply stunning and again one has the choice of shallow gentle waters which are ideal for children,
to picturesque rocky coves where you can nearly always find a quiet corner to relax undisturbed. For the more adventurous,
there are a whole host of water sports and mountain activities on offer from diving, sailing and kit surfing to
canyoning and horse-riding - there really is something for everyone.
Linen is included in the price of the rental.

Comments from previous guests...
'This is simply idyllic. A villa which has everything, from all
the kitchen utensils you will ever need, to WiFi, to TV and DvD, to an incredibly well-stocked bookcase, to a BBQ
area and a superb pool.
The views over the Bay of Calvi to the Citadel and the towering mountains in the distance are awesome, as are the
dramatic sunsets over the wide expanse of the enchanting sea view. You can eat outside, either under the sun on
the broad terrace overlooking the sea or in the shaded area next to the kitchen enjoying the view over the Bay
to the Citadel. In the village there's a well-stocked Tabac/supermarket, a bar serving light snacks and cool beers
and an up-market restaurant (Chez Charles) serving imaginative local cuisine and with an excellent wine list. There's
a small beach about 2 miles away with a beach restaurant (Le Matahari) and, even closer just off the main road,
a take-away pizza bar. Calvi, with its bigger beaches, larger supermarkets, shops, restaurants, bars and marina
is a 15 minute drive away (depending on the traffic). If you enjoy walking you're in for a treat! Behind the village
there's a steep but short hike up to the abandoned settlement of Occi (a great way to build up an appetite for
dinner); there's a great coastal path from the Citadel to the lighthouse at La Revellata and the Forest of Bonifatu,
with its access to the GR20 and connecting trails, is only half an hour away. The Ranieri's are a charming couple
who make you very welcome the moment you arrive but are then anonymous 'till you leave. They are generous in the
extreme to give up their wonderful villa during the holiday season when it must be at its most beautiful. We will
be booking early next year!'
'The villa is in a wonderful setting with glorious views over
to Calvi. We had a lovely holiday here and have nothing but good things to say about the property. We are a family
of four with 2 teenage children. The villa is well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Including Wi-Fi.
It is very spacious and there are plenty of areas outside to eat or relax. The owner was very friendly and helpful
and greeted us with some provisions. Though there is a grocers in the village (5mins walk) that is open everyday
up until 8. We also think it is open for bread from 8am but never managed to get up at that time to check. We flew
into Bastia on the sunday and managed to find a supermarket on the way at Ponte Leccia (closes 1.30pm). Car hire
is essential to get to the many beaches and lovely mountain villages. Sleeping 7 would require 3 people in one
room that has a sofa bed under a high bed. We would certainly come back here; a week was just not long enough.'
