Set within a hectare of land covered with ancient oaks and olive trees,
the Residence Gnettari is a relaxed, family run residence tucked away between the lively resort of Propriano and
the superb sandy beaches of Baracci and Cappiciolo.
There are nine simple apartments in all, arranged over three floors, each with balcony and views over the bay of
Propriano. The door opens onto a small hallway, to the right of which is the bedroom with double bed and bed side
tables. A cot is available on request should you need one, and fits nicely into mum and dad's room. Just next to
the bedroom is the shower room and toilet. Another door leads to the main living room with sliding patio doors
leading to the balcony. An alcove off this main living room is the kitchenette which has been equipped with a small
pine dresser, microwave, two hob rings and a fridge with icebox. The living room is also equipped with either a
double sofabed or bunk-beds (double bed below and single bed above) set back in an alcove to allow for more flexible
sleeping arrangements or extra occupants.
Outside are two communal brick built barbecues, and Marie-Pierre tells us that guests often enjoy pleasurable evenings
with new friends they have met here. There is also a large shared pool equipped with an alarm for child safety,
loungers for those who want to just relax and soak up the sun, and parasols if you want to escape the heat of the
day. This area also offers a shower and toilet.
All along this stretch of coastline are little footpaths that lead down to the fabulous beaches with soft golden
sand, granite boulders and clear turquoise waters. One of the largest stretches is Baracci which is backed by a
beautiful woodland area which is idea for picnics, tree climbing and hide and seek! Baracci has some strong undercurrents
but there are plenty of little creeks and coves nearby which are perfect for young children to paddle and where
older children can catch fish and crabs in the little rock pools.
However, the Valinco has a lot more to offer visitors than just beautiful beaches. For the more adventurous, there
are a whole host of water sports and mountain activities on offer from diving, sailing and boat trips to horse-riding
and even parachuting! The picturesque peaks of Les Aiguilles de Bavella (Bavella Needles) are an awe-inspiring
area of granite spikes rising high above the ground. A walker's paradise, Bavella is worth a visit just for the
scenery and keen photographers will not be disappointed! For those who prefer to take it easy, Propriano's bustling
waterfront marina is the ideal place to enjoy refreshing drink in one of the many cafes lining the harbour, or
sample some of the fresh fish caught that morning.
The red wines of the Satenais are renowned across the island and in this area, and three worthy of consideration
are the Domaine Fiumiccioli (available direct from the producer just a couple of minutes drive from the Residence
Gnettari), Domaine San Michele and the Domaine Sant'Armeto.
The Residence Gnettari is particularly suited to young families and couples looking for simple, affordable accommodation
within walking distance of the beach. Some road noise is possible on the balconies but Marie-Pierre tells us that
this is not particularly noticeable in the apartments or by the pool.
