The enchanting mediaeval village of Lama is a unique and special place
in Corsica. Spectacularly positioned at the edge of the village, Maison Ceccaldi are ideally placed to enjoy the
peace and tranquility of authentic village life. The houses are arranged in three pairs, each with breath-taking
views over the chestnut tress and olive groves of the Ostriconi valley, towards the coast.
Access to the houses is at the rear of the property, protecting the privacy of the terraces. The terraces at the
front of the houses are quite independent from each other, and screening is provided in the form of fragrant oleander
bushes which are bursting with flowers of pink and white from spring through to autumn, when the surrounding countryside
takes on a beautiful russet hue. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day exploring, and a barbecue
where you can prepare your own versions of the local specialities adds the finishing touch. The superb heated swimming
pool and Jacuzzi are situated just below the houses, and are shared between the six houses.
Inside, there is a large open plan living room with comfortable seating, a dining table and chairs, and a kitchen
area to the rear that has been well equipped with full cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher & washing-machine.
French windows and stone steps lead to the terrace. There are two bedrooms on this level; a double and a twin,
and a bath/shower room with toilet. Stairs lead to the mezzanine level where there are two single beds. There is
also a further double bedroom, and shower room with toilet.
There are a a few restaurants in the village serving local specialities,
and a small village shop. Mobile shops; meat and bread, visit regularly, and there is a supermarket and a small
commercial centre at Ponte Lecchia, just a short drive away.
Each year during the first week of August, the village is host the Festival
du Film Europeen de Lama (Lama Film festival). This annual event, founded in 1994 is a celebration of the cinema
in the countryside and the countryside in the cinema, so the films have a rural theme. The opening ceremony is
normally held around the village pool and during the week, there are lots of events and activities such as open
air film screenings and activities for the kids. There are even meetings of theatre and music professionals and
enthusiasts, and a workshop for local and visiting children (in French) to introduce them to the process of film-making
from the writing to the finished product. The group actually make a film which is screened at the closing ceremony.
A week of cinema under the stars
Lama is an excellent base for exploring Corsica. Wander the ancient terraces and footpaths, or leave at dawn to
walk up into the mountains guided by a local shepherd. The nearby Ostriconi valley offer pony trekking, and the
beautiful sandy beaches of Ostriconi and Lozari are just 15-20 minutes or so by car. A Balanina (the new road linking
the Balagne with the centre of the island) passes within 3km of the village centre making the coastal towns of
Calvi and Ile Rousse, or the ancient capital of Corte easily accessible.

Comments from previous guests...
'We have had the most terrific holiday at Lama. The accommodation
was wonderful with all the amenities we could have wished for. The views and beaches of Corsica are second to none
and watching the sun come up over the mountains from the garden every morning was out of this world. Being self
catering gave us the option of relaxing and eating in or visiting one of the many bars and restaurants in the towns
nearby. Needless to say, we will be returning to Corsica at the earliest opportunity!'
'Just to let you know we are now back in the UK after an excellent
holiday including good weather. The accommodation was first class and the owners Roger and Marie Claire extremely
helpful and kind. We would recommend that accommodation to anyone who has a head for heights and spectacular mountain
views. The accommodation is only five minutes from the main road but requires a slow careful drive along a very
switchback mountain road through to Lama. At this time of the year (april) all the restaurants in Lama are closed.
We recommend the restaurant Chez De-De some ten minutes drive towards Pont Leccia. The supermarket at Pont Leccia
is worth visiting for supplies.'
