Apartment l'Eglise is a beautiful apartment situated in the Rue du Palais,
in the heart of the enchanting Citadel in Bonifacio. This street is considered to be one of Bonifacio's most attractive,
with its enclosed arcades and double arched windows. Ancient water channels join the Apartment l'Eglise to the
Sainte Marie Majeure's Church. This is the main church of Bonifacio, dating from 12th century and restored in 18th
century.
Arranged over two floors, this south facing apartment is spacious and decorated to a high modern standard. All
rooms overlook the charming church and rooftops of the citadel, whilst a range of restaurants, shops, boutiques
and cafes are almost on your doorstep. The first floor comprises a American style living room with kitchen which
has been equipped with a full oven, hob, cafetière, fridge freezer and kettle. The living room has been
furnished with a large sofa and two comfortable armchairs, television, a CD player and there is a dining area with
table and chairs. Also on this level is a shower room with toilet, and a washing machine. The apartment is also
equipped with a wireless internet connection.
Stairs lead up to the second floor where the bedrooms are located. The first bedroom is the master bedroom and
offers a kingsize bed, wardrobe and French doors leading onto the balcony with views over the rooftops, and a bistro
table and chairs. The second bedroom has a double bed with a wardrobe and armchair. There is a further shower room
on this level with shower, washbasin and hairdryer, as well as a separate toilet.
All the apartments in this area are accessed by steep staircases, and the Apartment l'Eglise is on the second floor,
so we recommend that guests pack luggage into smaller bags rather than one large suitcase. This apartment is not
suitable for young children or anyone with mobility problems. The apartment is about 10mins walk from the car park
although you can find free parking closer outside of the peak season.
There are a wonderful range of restaurants in this area from pizzerias to traditional local Corsican restaurants.
In the Citadel there are two small supermarkets which stock the basics as well as wonderful fresh bread, cheese
& wine, and a couple of bakeries and a butcher's shop all close by.
The views from the citadel are amazing and you will enjoy exploring the labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways.
There are a number of old churches and historical sites that can be explored by foot such as the notable staircase
of the King of Aragon. In the evening the citadel exudes the quite gentle buzz of diners in the nearby restaurants.
However, the livelier marina, home to a range of delicious restaurants and charming bars, is only a 10 minute stroll
through the 14th century Genovese gate and down the steps to the yacht lined marina.
Wander through the alleyways where you will find a selection of boutiques offering souvenirs and beautiful hand
crafted items, as well as a good choice of restaurants, some with views across the straights to Sardinia just 12km
away. The Marine cemetery is a must-see. Perched at the very edge of the town overlooking the sea, the silence
and slight eerie atmosphere is a stark contrast to the lively, colourful atmosphere of the rest of the Citadel.
Vistors can also visit the magnificent King of Aragon steps carved out of the cliff face, and the church of Saint
Dominique, one of the island's few Gothic buildings.
Sailors and fun-boarders will be in their element at the nearby beaches of La Tonnara, Piantarella, Santa Manza
and Balistra. The windsurfing in this area is reputed to be some of the best in France, and in May 'RIPCURL' the
French Funboarding championships are normally held here.
The best way to admire the town is to take one of the numerous boats trips where you will have a spectacular view
of the limestone cliffs and discover the caves all along the coast. Submarine life is every bit as extraordinary
and a haven for divers who can visit the Reserve Naturelle des Bouches de Bonifacio between Bonifacio and Sardinia
which is the most visited area with outstanding dive conditions. Here you will find the Lavezzi Islands and the
stunning marine reserve, known for the friendly groupers, brown meager, moray eel, scorpion fish, spiny lobster,
cuttlefish, octopus and dentex as well as amazing deep red coral, starfish, and anemones. Corsica also lies within
the boundaries of the French Cetacea Sanctuary where one can find the highest concentrations of whales and Dolphins
in the Mediterranean.
The sandy beaches nearby, range of water sports and harbour-front cafes are an obvious attraction, but be sure
to take time to discover the towns and villages nearby. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle, head up into
the Alta Rocca where you can find some of the most breath-taking and dramatic mountain scenes on the island. The
Col de Bavella in particular is not to be missed. The Bonifacio countryside is criss-crossed with numerous lanes
bordered by stone walls and paths that lend themselves perfectly to exploring the fragrant scrubland on foot, and
the area is rich with flora and fauna such as herons, kingfishers and Hermann's tortoises.
APARTMENT L'EGLISE IS NON-SMOKING, PETS NOT ALLOWED.

Comments from previous guests...
'Bonifacio is jaw droppingly beautiful & the Apartment l'Eglise
up in the citadel is equally so. It is beautifully furnished with everything you could possibly need and in an
amazing location for resturants in the citadel and a short 10 min walk to the marina. On arrival we met with Pierre
who speaks very good english & couldnt have been more helpful. The only slight downside is that you cant park
outside the apartment but Pierre arranged a car parking pass and we always found somewhere close to park and the
lovely walk back to the apartment was never a hardship. There are a couple of supermarkets and pattiseries within
very short walking distance too. I really can't recommend this apartment enough we had an amazing holiday.'
