In a large mature garden with stunning freeform pool, Villa des Collinnes
is a spacious and comfortable family house, ideally situated for exploring the diverse north east corner of Corsica.
The property is accessed by an electric gate which leads to the parking area in front of the house. From here,
steps lead up to the morning terrace where one can enjoy coffee and croissants, although the owners tell us that
most guests prefer the garden at the back of the house overlooking the pool and the hillside.
Large patio doors lead from the morning terrace to the spacious dining room with table and chairs, and the open
plan fitted kitchen which is fully equipped with oven, microwave, hob, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. These two
rooms are separated by an American style breakfast bar with stools. Beyond the kitchen and dining room is the living
room which has been furnished with a comfortable sofa and armchairs, fireplace feature and a television should
you ever tire of living al-fresco. Two arched French windows lead from the living room to the main terrace, garden
and pool.
An archway from the dining room leads to the light and airy hallway with its large picture window. There is a separate
toilet and large family shower room with double wash basins and shower cubicle. There are three double bedrooms
on this level, all of which have been furnished with style and taste. Two of the bedrooms boast arched French windows
leading to the terrace and pool, and the third bedroom looks out over the morning terrace at the front of the house.
Stairs lead down from the hallway to the lower level where there is a further large double bedroom with an additional
single bed to allow more flexible sleeping arrangements, and a large ensuite shower room with toilet. Also on this
level is the games rooms with billiards and table football, and a utility area with washing machine and extra freezer.
The family often stay here themselves, so the villa is very well equipped with all the comforts of home.
Outside, the large terrace area with table and chairs runs the length of the house. The pretty garden has been
well laid out with feature plants, pots and urns to add interest, but the crowning glory is surely the large freeform
pool with child alarm and contra-current jets. The pool is heated, making the house particularly suited to holidays
early and late in the season as it comfortable to swim all year round. There is also a brick built barbeque and
summer kitchen for al-fresco living, as well as an outside shower.
Just south of Bastia, it is hard to believe that Villa des Collines is just a short drive from the superb Castagniccia
region, the sandy beaches of Moriani Plage, the nature reserve at the Étang de Biguglia - the largest lagoon
in Corsica, and of course the bustling town of Bastia with it's range of shops and restaurants, and lively Saturday
market where you can buy local jams, cheeses, charcuterie and honey.
Not far away is the waterfront town of Saint Florent - often known as the Corsican Saint Tropez. In summer, the
narrow streets are filled with lively bars and restaurants, and small boutiques selling hand-made jewellery, paintings
local produce, but you can still find a quiet corner to sit and watch the world go by. Between Bastia and Saint
Florent is Patrimonio, perhaps the best know wine producing region on the island, renowned for excellent whites,
rose and of course the delicious Muscat - perfect if you want to take back some souvenirs!
