The stunning beaches and breathtaking mountains of Corsica

Apartment Angelina - 2 bedrooms, sleeps 4 people
Character property, sea views, garden, television, beach nearby

Dominating the town and the beautiful curved bay of Calvi is the stunning Genoese Citadel. Dating back to the 15th century, this old fortress town is the oldest part of Calvi. Wander the alleyways and narrow cobbled streets between the ancient vertical houses, and you cannot help but be captivated by the atmosphere of the Citadel. Our collection of Citadel apartments are situated close to the famous Chez Tao, a popular piano bar and restaurant, and the Cathedral Saint Jean Baptiste which stands at the highest point of the Citadel.

From here one can enjoy some of the best views over the Gulf of Calvi, whilst still just a few minutes' stroll from the bustling town below and the fabulous shallow sandy beach that stretches for over 5km.

APARTMENT ANGELINA - 2 bedrooms, sleeps 2-4 people

Apartment Angelina is the latest addition to our collection of Citadel Apartments, and perhaps the most special. Situated on the ground/first floor of the same beautiful old building as the other apartments, steps lead up the the narrow balcony at the front of the apartment and the main entrance which opens onto the spacious open plan living/dining room. To the left is a large kitchen diner which has been fully equipped with all the modern conveniences one would expect from an apartment of this standard; full cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and of course a cafetiere for coffee and croissants in the garden. A kitchen table and chairs have been provided so that you can breakfast whilst admiring the view. The living room has been furnished with style and taste with an eye to comfort and quality. There is a leather sofa and a forged iron dining table and chairs, and the windows from the kitchen and living room look out over the balcony with views of the sea through the trees below. The whole apartment has been renovated to an exceedingly high standard, and you will continually find little touches that add to your overall satisfaction such as the handmade cushions for the window ledges, a beautiful restored display cabinet used to show off the vibrant colours of the crockery which contrast with the cool whites and calming tones of the decor. The thick walls lend the apartment a fresh feel even in the height of the summer, and help to keep the apartment warm early and late in the year. The high vaulted ceilings and large living spaces, make the apartment feel much large that one would usual expect the 4 people. To the right of the living room are the bedrooms. There is a twin bedroom with double aspect sea views, and a double bedroom which again enjoys a view of the sea between the ancient buildings nearby. The large bathroom is shared between the two bedrooms and has a large shower, washbasin and toilet. Perhaps the most intriguing feature of this apartment is the garden area. Both bedrooms look out over the garden which is situated at the side of the apartment and also offers sea views. An ancient fig tree provides shade so where could be better to while away your evening with an aperitif before venturing out to the array of bars and restaurants lining the port below, or a leisurely breakfast planning the day ahead.

The Citadel is the oldest part of Calvi and remains very unspoilt with steep roads winding between high and impressive houses, so these apartments are not particularly suited to the elderly or anyone with walking difficulties. However, there is so much to see and do in Calvi and the surrounding areas, that many visitors tell us that a week is simply not long enough! The magnificent sandy beach with its wide range of water sports and beachside cafes is an obvious attraction, but be sure to take time to discover the towns and villages nearby either by car or using the little train that runs along the coast - an experience in itself! The narrow streets behind the port are home to a variety of interesting boutiques and excellent restaurants, and the bars lining the port are the perfect place to enjoy an aperitif before dinner whilst you listen to the sound of the water gently lapping the yachts moored in the marina.

Linen is included in the price of the rental.

'We were absolutely delighted when Beatrice opened the doors and shutters to this apartment. The sheer size has to be seen to be believed. From the outside this property is very unassuming. The quality of the furnishings and kitchen were of a very good standard. The views from the lounge window are stunning (even more so now as one of the large branches was removed during our stay - very obliging!! Position wise it could not have been better. We were next to a very charming restaurant and just up the steps from the famous Tao piano bar - this only appeared to be open at weekends and any noise did not bother us. If you have trouble walking then this probably isnt a good choice as the route back from the town is quite steep, although there are a number of different routes with totally different and equally stunning views. Beatrice the housekeeper was lovely and we managed to muddle through conversations with her with our limited french. We found the whole place charming and unpretentious. We didnt use the garden that came with this apartment very much as it was only accessible by going round the back (although I managed to climb through the bedroom window once) and when we were around the apartment we sat on the balcony and watched the world go by. The apartment is just beside one of the main attractions on the citadel tour - the Chez Tao piano bar so there were always lots of people milling around to shout bonjour to us! I would whole heartedly recommend this wonderful apartment to anyone. Trying to describe Calvi in such a few words is difficult, you need to experience it for yourself. I have been to many countries but this has to be one of the prettiest places I have seen. I shed a tear at the airport as I didnt want to leave this beautiful Island. I hope you will be as equally delighted.'
