A 'panier repas' is also provided for the day of arrival at the apartment, providing
a few basics to enable guests to make a meal on their first night without having to eat out or shop on the way.
The kitchen has been well equipped with a stove, oven, washing machine, dishwasher,
fridge freezer, microwave and there is also a television. The terrace offers a splendid panorama on the mountains
of the interior of Corsica. From this wonderful viewpoint in the heart of the village, you will dominate the beautiful
Ostriconi Valley. Access to u Casone ('the big house' in the Corsican language) is via a small cobbled street of
dry stones, with just a dozen or so steps to reach the apartment of one of the oldest houses of the village. The
architecture is very typical of this area of Corsica.
The village of Pietralba overlooks the beautiful Ostriconi Valley. A real gateway
to the Balagne, it is ideally situated for exploring both the interior of Corsica and the coast. Pietralba is a
community of 430 people and has a number of essential local services such as a grocers, bakery, butcher, pizzeria,
bar, tearoom, post office and multimedia access point.
The 15th and 16th August are traditionally festivity days: the celebration of Holy
Mary and Saint Roch the pattern saint of the village, gives rise to a spitied week of festivities in the village.
The village has a rich religious heritage, architecture and important agriculture. Many fountains are scattered
here and there in nature and little old bridges still exist to help you cross the Ostriconi creek.
This region has 360 kilometers of marked trails and you will discover the heritage
of Balagne. From Pietralba, you can enjoy the treks to Monte Astu (1532m) and Col de Tenda (1219m). Your walk will
take you from the summer pastures of Tenda to meet the high pastures and 'paillers' remains of the past, with ancient
stone fountains dotted along the pathway to provide welcome relief. At times you may be lucky enough to see the
many horses who have found refuge in the mountains, alongside cows, sheep and other goats at pasture. At the top
of Monte Astu you can see the north, the Gulf of Saint Florent and Cap Corse, which stretches to the horizon. In
the East, perhaps also the islands of the Tuscan archipelago whilst to the west, the Balagne mountains of Cintu
and Monte Padre. To the south are the Monte San Petrone and the Massif Rotondu.
Through many walks, you will discover the heritage of the village : the village
in ruins 'E case Nove', which overlooks the village (15mn), the Castle of Lumisgiana (25 mn), the chapels of Saint
Jean, Saint Michel, Sainte Lucie, Sainte Marie. The owners will be happy to inform and accompany you to discover
these treasures. The village of Pietralba because of its central location and its proximity to the central route
'A Balanina', is an excellent starting point for your activities in Corsica.
For a cultural break, Corte, the ancient capital of the island, is 25 minutes by
car, and in the heart of its citadel, The museum of Corsica' is well worth a visit. In early summer 2011 it will
inaugurate its new exhibition 'Mare Nostrum', the Corsicans and the sea. You can also visit the Museum of Morosaglia,
about 30 minutes by car, the birthplace of Pascal Paoli. For swimming, Pietralba is perfectly located, between
seas and mountains, river or beach, you can decide. 10 miutes by car are the famous Gorges of Asco, and some of
the most beautiful beaches in the Desert of Agriates available to you.
For your sports activities, the agency 'In Terra Corsa' in Ponte Leccia (10 minutes)
offers you a basic Whitewater, a park adventure called 'Asco Valley', a sailing centre, discovery hikes, hiking
or cycling.
Finally your stay does not come to an end without having known the joys of train
travel. Just 10 minutes drive away, the station of Ponte-Leccia you will allow you to discover the legendary Trinichellu
(literally train in Corsican). This station is the central hub of trains Corsica: indeed, you can visit both Balagne
at Bastia or south of the island passing by Corte. The train is an original way to explore the region: the route
of 230km is adventurous and sometimes surprise you. The beautiful landscapes, breathtaking bridges as the Bridge
of Vecchio (built by Gustave Eiffel), the crossing of exceptional sites such as the waterfall of Bridal Veil, or
long tunnel. Vizzavona many sensations that contribute to make your unforgettable trip.
