with beamed ceiling and huge picture windows with views over the surrounding countryside.
There is a spacious en-suite double bedroom, guest toilet and the main kitchen which has been equipped with a large
range-style cooker, washing machine, dishwasher and all the facilities one would expect - even a sorbet maker!
Steps lead up to the upper floor where there is another large bedroom. This room is also en-suite and also has
access to the sunny roof terrace. This part of the house is ideal for two couples who may want to holiday together.
The garden level is perhaps the most interesting part of the house. Like many village properties, La Maison d'Aregno
is built into the hillside, so steps lead down from the main level. There are two communicating rooms; one with
double bed and one two single beds, and a superb vaulted bathroom. There is a summer kitchen with second dishwasher
and fridge freezer, and salon d'été (summer living room) with exposed brickwork and vaulted ceilings.
This part of the house also features a home cinema.
As well as the main house, La Maison d'Aregno also offers an independent annexe. Covering an area of 47m2, the
double bed is dwarfed by the size of the room which has retained many of the original features such as the exposed
stonework, which have been combined with contemporary fixtures and fittings such as the modern frosted glass shower
room. Sliding doors from the annexe give access to the terrace and the village.
Overall, there are 5 bedrooms of which four have double beds and one has twin beds. Each bedroom has views over
the pool and the surrounding countryside, and access to a bath/shower room (shared for the communicating rooms),
and two have independent access. For those who need a little bit of extra space or more flexible sleeping arrangements,
there is also a sofabed, and two cots can be provided if required. La Maison d'Aregno also offers internet access
and a television in the salon d'hiver.
Outside the house is surrounded by terraced gardens in the traditional style, planted with mature trees and colourful
flowers, where there are plenty of places to relax and unwind, quiet corners to lose yourself in the latest bestseller
under the dappled shade, and sunny spots to top up your tan. Steps lead down from the main terrace to the large
private pool which has beautiful uninterrupted views over the Almond groves beyond.
The village of Aregno is home to the Church of the Trinite, a beautiful Pisan church of grey and ochre stone. The
village is surrounded by citrus groves and produces Corsica's sweetest oranges. These are distributed on St. Anthony's
day, dried out and kept for good luck. The village has a small shop where you can pick up the odd essentials, and
the ancient fishing village of Algajola and the picturesque blue shuttered crafts village of Pigna are both within
just a few minutes drive.
Quieter than the neighbouring resorts of Calvi and Ile Rousse, the biggest attraction of Algajola is the huge stretch
of soft golden sand and turquoise water. The village has managed to retain its charm and ancient ambiance, and
is relatively sleepy for most of the year, so and one can wander the narrow streets and follow the ramparts of
the old Castello undisturbed. There are a couple of lovely restaurants to enjoy leisurely lunches or dinners, a
small supermarket and even a wine tasting shop.
