A large, rambling family home at the edge of the pretty flowered village
of Cassano, Casa Rose is the perfect place for those looking for a peaceful holiday, whilst still within easy reach
of the picturesque villages, bustling resorts and superb sandy beaches of the Balagne.
A large stone archway with wooden gates leads to the private courtyard, planted with bougainvillea, geranium and
a climbing rose from which the house takes its name. The main door opens onto a small hallway with the good sized
kitchen opposite. Fitted with all the modern conveniences one would expect of a house of this size (full cooker,
microwave, washing machine, dishwasher and fridge-freezer), the kitchen still retains a traditional feel, and has
large French windows leading to the main terrace. The large main living/dining room has been furnished with comfortable
seating - including two sofabeds for flexible sleeping arrangements, and an extendable dining table and chairs
although most people prefer to make use of the large terraces and eat outside. The room has a spacious feel, and
enjoys the same lovely view of the dramatic mountain backdrop.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are arranged in two wings, making the house particularly well suited to two couples
(or two families!) who want to holiday together, but at the same time the house has a really homely feel, so a
couple or just one family wouldn't feel lost. Leading in one direction from the hallway are two bedrooms; one double
with original tiled floor, one twin, and a shower room with toilet. Access to the twin room is via the hallway,
whilst access to the double room is either through the twin room, or through the shower room from the main terrace.
The second bedroom wing leads from the main sitting room. The twin room is accessed from the living room, whilst
the second double room can be accessed either through the twin room or via a door from the courtyard. In this wing
is a bathroom with bath and shower attachment over, and a vanity unit with a door to the courtyard.
Outside there are three terraces, so you can always find a quiet corner to relax and soak up the sun, or a spot
of welcome shade. The upper terrace enjoys uninterrupted views of the Monte Grosso mountain, and thanks to the
raffia awning, you can enjoy both sun and shade throughout the day. The pretty courtyard also offers both sun and
shade at different times of the day, and below the courtyard is a further terrace/garden area with a washing line
to dry your towels after an afternoon on the beach!
The main part of the house is all on one level but there are steps (approx. 8) along the path which leads from
the parking area to the house. The nearest parking area is 30 metres from the house, but it is lovely and shady,
so you car will stay relatively cool even during the hot summer months.
Bread is sold in the village, and food vans call from time to time with various local produce. If you don't want
to venture too far, just a few minutes walk away is the beautiful Auberge de Calia which is an old mill that has
been sympathetically converted into a restaurant, incorporating much of the original mill machinery into the décor.
The villages of Zilia and Montemaggiore are just a few minutes drive and here you can find a couple of cafes/bars,
and a range of local produce. The resort of Calvi with its superb shallow sandy beach and its supermarket, shops,
restaurants and bars is just 20 minutes or so by car.
Cassano itself is very child friendly with no cars and lots of areas for children to play safely and perhaps make
some new friends. It boasts two unique features; the village square which is actually the shape of a star, and
a lovely triptych by Corsican painter Simonis de Calvi which can still be seen in the Baroque l'Eglise de l'Annonciation.
Linen is included in the price of the rental.
