Nestled amongst the lush chestnut forests and ancient olive trees of
the Castagniccia, A Curbaghja is a beautiful 17th century building set in private parkland, at the edge of the
historic village of Morosaglia. Sympathetically renovated by the owner, M. Luciani, the building now comprises
two houses; l'Alivu and u Castagnu.
M. Luciani has taken great care to maintain the original feel of the houses and throughout both you will come across
vestiges of times gone by such as ancient artefacts, original tapestries and exposed areas of ancient wall and
the granite rock onto which the houses are built. In u Castagnu you will even find a secret 'cache' built into
the wall of one of the bedrooms where valuables would have been stored. M. Luciani has taken great care to maintain
the original feel of the houses.
Each house has a well equipped, French style kitchen on the ground floor with full cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer
(for the ice cream!) and washing machine. The dining room is next door where there is a dining table and chairs,
although most people prefer to make use of the extensive terraces and two brick built barbecues and eat al-fresco.
The main living room is on the first floor to take full advantage of the lovely views over the surrounding chestnut
groves and villages. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with good quality soft furnishings amongst the period
pieces. A telephone can be provided for each property if requested at the time of booking.
l'Alivu
is the smaller of the two houses, and takes its name from the ancient olive trees within the grounds. The house
has two bedrooms; one double and one twin, and can sleep up to 4 people. One of the bedrooms is en-suite, and there
is a further bathroom with toilet. French windows lead from both the kitchen and dining room to the terrace where
you can eat al-fresco and enjoy the views.
u Castagnu
is larger than l'Alivu, and has a third bedroom making it ideal for two couples or a family alike. The name derives
from the Corsican word 'castagnu' meaning chestnut, reflecting the peaceful, rural location. The vaulted ceilings
give the house a distinctly Genoese feel to it - another reminder of times past. French windows lead to the terrace
where you can eat al-fresco and enjoy the views..
FOR GROUPS
- The house can also be easily converted to a large property with four double bedrooms, one single room, two living
rooms with (one with a sofabed) which can accommodate between 11 and 17 people. Price is 200 euros per room, per
night or 150 euros per night for the single.
Morosaglia is one of the largest villages in the region and although rural, it is not isolated. The town of Ponte
Leccia with its supermarket, shops, restaurants and bars is just 15 minutes or so by car and the beautiful beaches
of the Balagne and the East coast are never far away if you fancy a change of scenery (approx. 45 minutes). There
are also a couple of restaurants in the village itself if you don't want to venture too far.
Pascal Paoli - one of the most celebrated figures in Corsican history - was born in Morosaglia so it is no wonder
then that here you can experience the real Corsica. There is very little tourist accommodation in the village,
so visitors really feel part of the local community. M. Luciani, the owner, lives closeby and is truly passionate
about Corsica. For those who are keen to experience the real Corsica, he will happily introduce you to his friends
and family, and spend many happy hours discussing local history. However, if you prefer to be left in peace, he
won't disturb you.
The Castagniccia is an area of Corsica rich in tradition, history and culture. Criss-crossed by a network of ancient
country footpaths, it is a haven for nature lovers and those looking for peace an tranquillity. Here you will find
a relaxed, peaceful lifestyle complemented by forest hamlets and picturesque villages, opulent Baroque churches,
convents, chapels and ancient stone houses chiselled into the mountainside, but the lively, bustling resorts of
Bastia, Calvi, Corte and even Ajaccio are all within easy reach.
Outside of the main season, the owner can accept flexible arrival
dates - please ask for details.

Comments from previous guests...
'Dear Sue at directCorsica. We've recently returned from our
stay at l'Alivu in Morosaglia and this is just to say we had a wonderful holiday and l'Alivu was in a splendid
location and we were stunned by the scenery and had lots of fun exploring.'
'I just wanted to thank you for all your help in finding us accommodation
in Corsica and all the useful information you gave us. We had a wonderful time (what a great place to watch the
World Cup with France and Italy in the final!) and really loved the house - beautiful setting and views, and that
wonderful mountain air! Many thanks and best wishes'.
