Amid some of the most spectacular scenery on Corsica and at the centre of the 'Circuit des Merveilles', the Hotel Restaurant l'Aitone dominates the magnificent village of Evisa, 850m above sea level.

Comfortable and welcoming, the hotel offers a traditional lounge bar and a restaurant where you try some of the local specialities such as terrine of wild boar with chestnuts, or trout from the local river, but what could be more relaxing than watching the sun slowly setting behind Spelunca Gorge from the panoramic terrace surrounding the pool. The hotel has been furnished in a traditionally rustic style, and boasts 32 rooms with different levels of facilities and comfort. The bedrooms at the back of the hotel are particularly nice as they have balconies and stunning views over the acres of chestnut forest and Laricio pines that surround the village.

For families there is a childrens play area/garden and for the more active tennis is also available. However, one of the biggest attractions is the outstanding natural beauty of the region. The Mare e Monti trail leaves from the upper part of the village, and there are marked walks to the 'Grottes des Bandes' and the 'Cascades de la Vallee Scalpa' waterfall. There are plenty of opportunities to swim in natural rock pools formed by huge granite boulders, and a drive through the Calanches de Piana is not to be missed! The Spelunca Gorge is one of truly one of natures unexplained wonders; deep red ravines that plunge to depths of 1000m, local legend has it that it was created by the devil himself in a fit of rage. Nature lovers will love the boat trips to Girolata and Scandola - europe's only land and sea reserve, and the little resort of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage site with its Genoese watchtower red granite cliffs. Birdwatchers can expect to see eagles and sparrowhawks, and if you are lucky, you may even spot a Corsican nuthatch.

Particularly beautiful in the autumn when the Forêt d'Aitone takes on a golden hue, and if the evenings are a little chilly, you can warm yourself in front of the roaring fire. In November each year, the village is host to the Chestnut Blossom Festival which celebrates not only the local chestnuts, but also the delicious wild mushrooms that grow in abundance in the Forêt d'Aitone.
